Key Facts:
In 2001, the Balfour Beatty Rail UK and Balfour Beatty Engineering Services joint venture was awarded the contract for the rail and tunnel systems extending the Heathrow Express and Piccadilly Line railways to Heathrow’s new Terminal 5 (T5).
The package comprised the rail, trackwork, traction power and mechanical and electrical works for a total of 10km of new railway being installed underground.
Balfour Beatty Construction was appointed the production leader and fit-out contractor for the rail station and interchange.
It's one of the largest construction projects in Europe, and the new £4.3 billion terminal will cater for 30 million passengers a year.
