Balfour Beatty companies involved:
Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering, Balfour Beatty Engineering Services and Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering.
Key Facts:
The 1.9km tunnel on the A3 at Hindhead in Surrey will eliminate the one major bottleneck on the only trunk road connecting Portsmouth with London.
The new road will be 6.5km (4miles) long and includes twin bore tunnels, one for each two-lane carriageway, under the Devil’s Punch Bowl Site of Special Scientific Interest.
The project will deliver quicker, more reliable journeys on a safer road, and includes the closure of the existing A3 around the Devil’s Punch Bowl, bringing considerable environmental benefits to an internationally prized area.
