North Wales Wind Farm
Parsons Brinckerhoff, a Balfour Beatty company, faced a real challenge. Concerns about the carbon intensity of fossil fuels, combined with increasing consumer energy demands, meant that distribution network operators needed to get more out of their wind farms. So we found a way to make wind power more powerful.
In partnership with ScottishPower, AREVA, Imass and The University of Durham, we developed an innovative new control system - one that uses real-time thermal rating systems to increase the energy yield from wind-based generators. As well as offering more power, the system has the potential to be less invasive and more cost-effective for developers. And ultimately, it's a big step towards the overall goal of a low-carbon world.
